Are you ready to begin celebrating Summer?  We sure are!  And what a better way than to celebrate National Pick Strawberries Day on May 20th!  Strawberry picking can be a fun event to share with family and friends to welcome this delightful season. . . Well, an even better way to celebrate strawberries and summer might be to order and share some Boo-Shaw Bakery Strawberries ‘n Cream cookies, but we might be a little partial to cookies! 😉😉.  Why don’t you do both?  Go out there and pick some strawberries to enjoy the delicious fruit and enjoy the strawberry flavor in your Boo-Shaw Bakery Strawberries ‘n Cream cookies!

Strawberries offer amazing nutritional value. These red berries are full of antioxidants, vitamin C, folic acid, fiber, etc.  We were interested in the history of this holiday since we have many friends and neighbors who enjoy “Strawberry Picking” on occasion!  We found a great article on nationaltoday.com sharing some of the history of National Pick Strawberries Day:

While there’s no record of when the first National Pick Strawberries Day was celebrated, the history of the activity and the fruit goes way back. In ancient times, wild strawberries were used mainly for medicinal and therapeutic purposes. There are mentions of the fruit in Roman records that date to the first century A.D. In other centuries, the wonders of the fruit were also proclaimed in literary texts, and one prominent example includes the words of William Butler, a 16th-century writer/poet, who said, “Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did”.

So enjoy this day by:

There are so many ways to have fun with this holiday!  Yummy!
