National Good Neighbor Day – September 28, 2023
Did you know there was a day called, “National Good Neighbor Day?” That’s right!! It is celebrated each year on September 28. According to Wikipedia.org, this day was first officially recognized in 1970: National Good Neighbor Day is a national holiday in the United States celebrated on September 28. In the early 1970s, Becky Mattson of Lakeside, Montana created National Good Neighbor Day as a day to connect with and recognize the importance of strong leaders. On September 22, 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed Proclamation 4601 establishing September 24, 1978 as National Good Neighbor Day, stating that it should be observed “with appropriate ceremonies and activities.” . . .

Patriot Day – September 11, 2023
Today, September 11th is Patriot Day. We will Never Forget! On September 14, 2001, President George W Bush proclaimed September 11th as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. The US Department of Defense provides good information about this day and gives the historical reference when President Barack Obama proclaimed Sept. 11 Patriot Day and National Day of Service, Remembrance on September 11, 2016 – September 11th is a time for all Americans to “honor all who lost their lives in the heartbreaking attacks of Sept. 11 and all who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country in the years that followed,” President Barack Obama.
Grandparents Day – September 10, 2023
We all know and celebrate Fathers’ Day and Mothers’ Day each year, but how many of you know about and celebrate Grandparents’ Day? Boo-Shaw Bakery did some research on this holiday and found a great article on legacyproject.org explaining the history of this holday: National Grandparents Day falls each year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. It’s not a holiday invented to sell cards and flowers. It was initiated at the grassroots level by West Virginian Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade. . .

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Website, Labor Day is: observed the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.
